Recorded over the course of 2011, Enemies, Closer! is RTFM’s debut album. It was inspired by hazy freshman dorms, motivation, and old flames.

Belgian Man Records is partnering with Weasel Family Records to release Shuckin’ The Jive, the debut album by Belmont, MA comedy new-wave duo, Whitey & The Cadillac Franks. They recorded the album onto reel-to-reel 8-track tape, so you know they’re legit. Whitey & The Cadillac Franks is Matthew Gallagher, also of Wax Monsters, and Joey Migeed. Anyway, if you enjoy synthesizers, new wave, no wave, comedy, or awesome things, you should seriously give this one a listen.

Megalopolis

Campbell, whom you may know from The Zone, is releasing an album on Belgian Man! It’s called Megalopolis, and it’s severely cool.

In his own words:

Many electronic musicians (myself included) look to the post-industrial world for inspiration. When I wrote this piece, I was interested in exploring the concepts of urban sprawl, the mobile internet, highways, and cloud computing. Each track is a different movement of the piece, and each title takes the name of an urban center of the American Northeast, followed by one digit for the center’s population ranking, one digit for the order in which the movement was written, one letter for the movement’s pitch class, and four digits for the movement’s tempo in beats per minute.

Megalopolis was written during a bus trip from New York, NY to Boston, MA on an overcast day (02011.10.13).

The only software used during the writing process was Oliver Wittchow’s nanoloop.
